Streets of Paris, London, Milan and New York are becoming deserted. All the fashion-mongers are catching their flights to Melbourne as the city is getting ready for its 18th Spring Fashion Week which will be held from September 3rd to 9th.
Two hundred events and fashion shows are going to be attended by at least 100,000 visitors. You can join the fashion elite and plunge into the atmosphere of style. Spend a few days with models, established designers and
emerging new talents, attend exhibitions and forums, take some tailoring classes. Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (MSFW) encourages everyone to “Be inspired”.
Here are a few highlights from this year’s program:
Designer Series
Designer Series are all about Australian fashion. The majority of presented labels are from the hosting city itself. Runway 1 show will include collections of Toni Maticevski and Michael Lo Sordo. Runway 2 is going to feature Above, Carly Hunter, LIFEwithBIRD and boutique offerings from Alice Euphemia. Friend of Mine, Limedrop, White Suede, and Strateas Carlucci (formerly of Trimapee) will be showcasing their collections on the Runway 3. Let Alpha60, Alice McCall, Kuwaii, Obus, Dress up, Gorman and We Are Handsome will tell you what’s hot on the Runway 4.

The Emerging Designer Series
If you are craving for more experiments, you should attend the shows by young designers. Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Student Runway promises to burst with creativity. This exciting event will include the work of the university’s top fourth-year fashion students.

ACMI Fashion Films
Fashion movies are also a part of MSFW. Get inspired with insightful films:
’Inside the Mind of Tom Ford’
In this movie the famous designer who previously created toilets for Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent is going to talk about his career, work ethic, as well as his reasons for walking away from the two iconic fashion houses.
‘The Day Before’
Everyone likes to know what’s going on behind the scenes of fashion shows. In this film cameras follow Lanvin and Isabel Marant designers for 48 hours in the chaos that leads to the launch of their Spring Summer 2012 collections.

AsiaPacific Fashion Runaway
This is definitely “must-go”. Check the latest trends of the Asia Pacific region as designers from Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Latin America and more show off their latest clothing collections.
